Dr. Backs-Dermott, Ph.D.

Dr. Backs-Dermott is a registered Clinical Psychologist who has been working within the public health system for the past 12 years. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Calgary in 2002. She specializes in providing Cognitive-Behavioral therapy for individuals suffering from depression and anxiety disorders. She has extensive experience training future Clinical Psychologists. She has supervised numerous Clinical Psychology Ph.D. students and Clinical Psychology Predoctoral Residents, providing them with specialized training in cognitive-behavioral therapy, both individually and in group format. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary in the Department of Psychology. She has been actively involved in research, publishing journal articles and presenting at professional conferences across North America. Dr. Backs-Dermott is a Registered Clinical Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. She is certified as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist by the Canadian Association of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CACBT).

Dr. Mothersill, Ph.D.
Registered Psychologist (Alberta)

Dr. Mothersill has over 35 years of experience in working in clinical, supervisory and practicing leader positions within public and private health care sectors. He is an Adjunct Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Calgary and has taught numerous courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is President of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) and is the founding and now Past-Chair of the Psychologists in Hospitals and Health Centers Section of CPA. Previous positions in Psychology organizations include: Chair, Clinical Section, CPA; Chair, Canadian Council of Professional Psychology Programs (CCPPP); President, Psychologists Association of Alberta and Board member of the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.

Dr. Mothersill obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Western Ontario in 1980. He completed an extramural training program in Cognitive Therapy with Dr. Beck at the University of Pennsylvania in the early 80s. He is a Diplomat, Founding Fellow, and Certified Supervisor with the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and is Certified in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy by the Canadian Association of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Dr. Mothersill provides Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and psychological assessment services in addition to teaching, supervision and research.

Dr. Macrodimitris, Ph.D.
Registered Psychologist (Alberta)

Dr. Macrodimitris holds a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from York University. She has been registered as a Clinical Psychologist in Alberta since 2007. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary, with the Faculties of Medicine (2007) and Social Sciences (2008). Dr. Macrodimitris has been practicing in hospitals in Calgary since 2004. Her clinical practice focuses on providing integrative evidence-based therapies (cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic/interpersonal therapy, mindfulness meditation, emotion focused therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy) to optimally address a variety of mental health problems that clients may present with (e.g., depression, anxiety, grief/loss, perfectionism, marital issues etc.). She has extensive experience assisting individuals with chronic illness who are struggling with illness-related adjustment issues, chronic pain, disability, and other stressors associated with physical illness. This includes eight years of experience assisting individuals with stress-related illness, including DSM-5 Somatic Symptom Disorders and particularly Conversion Disorder (Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder) and Illness Anxiety (previously termed Hypochondriasis).
